Justice and Judgment 1

Justice and judgment are characteristics of God that are not well understood or taught in the Church. In fact most Churches focus on the blessings of the Lord (e.g. new car, bigger house, a wife or husband, etc.); which always come with the condition of obedience. The first time the Lord mentions justice and judgment is in Gen 18:19.
Gen 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
The Lord said this before He told Abraham of His decision to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Even though Abraham, in his humanity, asked God to spare the cities if even 10 righteous people were found; we all know, and archeology evidence shows, that the cities were destroyed by fire and brimstone, so 10 righteous were not found. God did righteous judgment in consuming the immoral, homosexual spirit that lived in these evil cities.
(Note: In Gen 19:9 the people of Sodom hate Lot for judging them. God willing, in a future article we will study the relationship between the filthy homosexual spirit and the lack of God’s standard of judgment in the Church and the world, and we will also see that the haters of God are also haters of judgment.)
This example and many others in the Bible, of God’s destruction through His judgments have left the Church not wanting to preach or even discuss judgment mostly because of fear of scaring off people from filling the seats on Sunday mornings. The thought goes something like this “If we tell people that God will judge their sinful lifestyle and that bad things will happen to them as result of sin, then they won’t want to come to Church, and give tithes and offerings. Then we won’t have any money to build bigger Churches, create social clubs and have great Church picnics.” So the Word of God is compromised in order to please the people; justice and judgments are taken away from the people, and God is not pleased. They end up not knowing the true God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who manifested Himself as the Son, Christ Jesus. Yet the Lord delights in judgments, He always judges. If we want to get right with God we must judge according to His righteous standard (which is not by laws but rather by the Truth).
Jer 9:23-24 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let them that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.
To know God in your mind and understand Him in your heart requires that you delight in the things that He delights in; lovingkindess, judgment, and righteousness. So judgment brings great pleasure or joy to God’s Soul. You and I are to feel the same.
In Gen 18:19 (quoted above) the Lord clearly shows that justice and judgment are a requirement to obtain His promises. Notice the word “that” after “judgment;”, this is a conditional that and means the keeping of the way of the Lord (justice and judgment) is what moves God to fulfill His promises. Indeed every promise God has for us is surrounded by obedience to Him. Why? Because God is righteousness and holiness, He judges before He blesses, so we must do what He says before we get what He has for us. God willing, in a future article we will describe how God’s unconditional love (agape) operates along with His judgments. Nonetheless, the answer begins by looking at His righteousness.

Justice then is fairness, equity, and righteousness; while judgment is the act of making a decision about something based on some standard, guidance, or law. Judgment is something that we do daily because we constantly have to make decisions, and every decision we make is based on some information we learned prior to the decision making event. We must judge in order to decide and choose. The question is what standard, guidance, or laws do we judge by? Also, justice is only done when correct or right judgment is made. So judgment must have a foundation of righteousness and truth. Any judgment that falls short of this does not lead to justice.
The only righteous is God. The only truth is the Word of God, as found in the Bible.
The Church should then be a pillar of justice and judgment in a fallen world. Unfortunately, it is not due to a lack of right judgment. Many so-called Christian Churches are an abomination to the Lord when they are judged according to the truth, the Bible. The catholic church practices idolatry, contrary to the first commandment (Ex 20:3-6), in praying to some mary deity that they made up; priests are placed before the people blocking their access to God; and a litany of sins too many to mention here. God has already judged the catholic church and she is cursed with a curse. The 7th Day Adventist church has decided to go backward into the Old Testament and place their people under the burden of the Law (plus many of their own made up laws), which Jesus fulfilled, leaving no room for the Holy Spirit to operate in the lives of the people. Thus, many of their members struggle to walk in the Law rather than “dying” so they can walk in the Spirit. Many so-called Christian Churches are focused on “love” and niceness and as a result hate truth and judgment, so they invite in homosexuals, child molesters, thieves, murderers, false prophets, strange religions with false gods, and all the things that God hates into the Church so they can be one big happy family. People can live in their sins and still go to heaven according to these abominations. The Christian Church is supposed to purge the world of sin by being a bridge to Christ Jesus. Sin cannot be purged if it stays hidden and not judged. If a homosexual comes to Church he/she must know that his/her lifestyle is NOT acceptable to God, and the Church must be ready to assist in the deliverance of the person from the bondage of homosexuality. A Church cannot call itself a Church of the Lord and violate His requirement to judge according to His righteous standard. Indeed they should not use the name Church, but rather their real name, synagogue of satan (Rev 2:9).
Many Churches and so-called religions (True Christianity is not religion, it is truth) are a result of some not liking what they are hearing and breaking off and starting their own Church. This would be good if was done for righteousness sake and that the truth of the Word of God was being upheld, however, most of the time pride enters and the truth is distorted by the leaders to draw in more followers. This is how cults are formed. God willing, I will do an article in the future on pride and the establishment of religions and Churches. The truth about how a Church should operate is clearly outlined in the New Testament, for those who have ears to hear. The Church is apostolic in nature, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets.
Eph 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
The meaning of apostolic is (source www.dictionary.com):
ap·os·tol·ic adj.
- Of or relating to an apostle.
- Of, relating to, or contemporary with the 12 Apostles.
- Of, relating to, or derived from the teaching or practice of the 12 Apostles.
- Of or relating to a succession of spiritual authority from the 12 Apostles, regarded by Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and some others to have been perpetuated by successive ordinations of bishops and to be requisite for valid orders and administration of sacraments.
- Roman Catholic Church. Of or relating to the pope as the successor of Saint Peter; papal.
Apostolic means teaching coming from the apostles of Christ, with Brother Peter taking the early leadership position with his sermon on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-42). Any Church that teaches based on the apostles’ doctrine (Acts 2:42) is apostolic in nature (regardless of what they call themselves). Jesus is returning for one Church body that is following the doctrines that He laid down to His apostles not a bunch of denominations following the doctrines of men. The 3rd meaning relating to the pope and catholic and their splinter abominations (denominations that come from catholicism) is a farce because these churches do not follow the teachings of the Apostles so they have no spiritual authority.
Another important point to understand about the apostles is that they spoke with judgment. Peter’s sermon caused the people to be pricked in their hearts (Acts 2:37), they felt convicted of sin and wanted to know what to do. The solution is repent, baptism in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). The Holy Spirit continues the work in the believer through judgment of sinful behaviour (John 16:8-11). Peter did not promise blessings, he knew that sin had to be dealt with first, and that the ultimate reward is salvation, which is eternal life in Christ Jesus.
An apostolic Church is one that preaches and teaches on judgment, for God is the Judge of the universe, and anywhere His presence is, an atmosphere of judgment exists. The Lord our God, His name is Jesus, He is a consuming fire.
Heb 12:28-29 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace (let us hold fast), whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: for our God is a consuming fire.
